Vocabulary

Japanese Vocabulary is genuinely manageable once you understand how it’s built. A large portion of the language is made up of Sino-Japanese compounds which means that learning kanji and learning vocabulary reinforce each other. For most learners, 2,000 to 3,000 words gets you to functional comprehension of everyday conversation; 6,000 to 8,000 is where native media starts to feel accessible.
